Chez Maupassant

Episode 2 : La Parure
Episode 3 : L'Héritage
Episode 6 : Hautot, père et fils

Adaptations of four tales and four stories by Maupassant shot on natural locations. The Maupassant series produced by Gérard Jourd’hui uses prominent writers and directors and prestigious actors.

It was the welcome spring surprise from France 2. The series, Chez Maupassant, proved that there was novelty in the classics. Inviting eight directors to each adapt a short story into a medium-length film with a pre-selected technical crew seemed like a stylistic exercise for them. None of them balked at this unusual, even daring project. The presence of name actors obviously provided a decisive boost to this adventure that harked back to the golden age of television when the ratings system didn’t prevail. Most of all, it proved how Maupassant’s elegant cruelty has remained magnificently contemporary even when seen through the prism of the home screen.
