Bai Qiulian is a story from Chinese classic, The Fantastic Tales of Liao Zhai. It is about a bitter romance between a man and a spirit. Chan-gong, whose lover has been married to a prefect, suffers a depression and begins to drink heavily. In a lake near Chan-gong’s village live two water spirits named Bai Qiulian and Bai Qiuhong.
