Yves Klein, la révolution bleue

A portrait that both analyzes a unique oeuvre and - as illuminated by anecdotes - retraces an exceptional human and artistic adventure. It is a documented saga, the serial of thought in action. The film insists on the importance of his contribution in the artistic context of his time. It thus showcases the essence of a "vision" that revolutionized the history of modern painting. If some of Klein’s concepts may seem complex and elitist on paper (meaning, for specialists only), they are considerably simplified and popularized, so as to allow as many people as possible to have a clear understanding of the originality and modernity of this spectacular oeuvre. For us, it is equally important to situate the modernity of an oeuvre in the light of its era. Criticized by a number of American critics who sought to reduce his work to a "formalism of the blue rectangle", or worse, to a form of occultism, our concern here is to sum up an achievement that remains to being discovered. Yves Klein was a utopian who, through art, succeeded in giving form to his dream.
