Whiskey and Water
This feature documentary tells the inside story of the rise and fall of Vivendi Universal. And it is the epic tale of one of Canada's great family dynasties – the Bronfmans. Edgar Bronfman Jr was the upstart heir to the Seagram whisky billions. He set out to transform the company in a Hollywood and entertainment giant. In Paris, Jean-Marie Messier was labelled "the most ambitious empire-builder since Napoleon". At the height of the "dot.com" craze, they merged their empires. For a brief shining moment, Vivendi Universal epitomized the thrilling promise of media convergence. Instead, there was conflict and betrayal. For the Bronfman dynasty, it was a calamity costing them about $ 6 billion and their legendary whiskey empire.
