Ventres à louerWombs for Rent
400 to 500, that’s the number of couples in France who are said to seek recourse to a surrogate mother to bear their child. A practice that has been banned for 15 years, treated by the law as tantamount to the sale of babies. A practice, nevertheless, that is spreading illegally. A practice that couples and surrogate mothers carry on clandestinely. Where and how do infertile couples find women to bear their children? What price do they pay for bearing their child? How big is the clandestine market? An investigation in France and abroad led us to French couples who are looking, and to follow, in private, the final three months of pregnancy of a French surrogate mother.
