Un pont pour toujours...A Bridge for Life…
The motivation for this documentary was to keep a record of the dismantling and reconstruction of the old suspension bridge in Le Bono (Brittany), a powerful symbol for the people of this quaint seaside village. The population's strong attachment to their bridge, however, leads the director to meet the colourful characters at the centre of this story, such as Paul, Jean, Raymond, Lisette and all the others. As the bridge is rebuilt, bolt by bolt, the memories return and its story takes shape, recreating an unbroken line stretching back to the time the bridge was built in 1840. The elders remember their grandfathers, and the young of Le Bono become absorbed in the project too, just as their forefathers had been 150 years ago. What started off as a straightforward technical challenge begins inexorably to shed light on the life of the community as a whole.
