Tikopia
Norwegian-born director Thomas Lien was in for quite a shock when he arrived on the island of Tikopia. This Polynesian island is so remote that it has remained untouched by the modern world. At the time, Lien befriended John, the son of one of the native chiefs. In 2003, the island was hit by the worst cyclone ever to ravage the Pacific. For an entire week, no one knew what had become of the islanders. But thanks to their long tradition of survival, there were no deaths, despite the destruction of all the houses. Six months, later, Lien decided to go back there to see how the inhabitants had come through this ordeal.
