The Upright Man is Thomas Sankara, President of Burkina Faso from 1983 to 1987. A remarkable man who challenged the generally accepted ideas about Africa and African people. This documentary retraces the 4 years of his mandate. This outstanding leader, famous in all of Africa for his innovative ideas, his devastating humour, his spirit and his altruism came to be known as the African Che. Through film records, testimonies of close collaborators and contemporary African statesmen, this film tells the story of a young leader murdered in his prime for having gone too far and too fast in his will to change his country and international politics.
