The Cycles of the Mental Machine

Detroit, “Motorcity,” was until 1967 the world’s automobile capital. But the dreadful civil rights riots of 1967 were extremely violent. Taking fright, the economic powers that be reacted immediately by relocating the car plants. The ensuing economic debacle and endemic unemployment led to an exodus. All those who could, moved out of the city. Yet it was in this desolate city that “Electrifying Mojo” first appeared in the mid-70s – an definite mediating force, and an extraordinary wakeup jolt for future techno DJs.
