Terug naar Siberië

Last winter Martin Heylen made a journey through Siberia of 11,000 kilometres, from the city of Ekaterinenburg to the Ural Mountains. On the way Martin knocked at people’s doors and stayed over for dinner, sometimes even spent the night with them, but above all, took down their day-to-day stories. This resulted in a television series called Winter in Siberia. Last summer Martin and his crew returned and the contrast was enormous. Underneath the monotonous white snow and ice fields lies a surprisingly green land hidden, with thousands of lakes and pools. People enjoy every summer’s day after a winter that can last up to nine months in some parts of the country.
