Pollice alto, Congo!Thumbs Up, Congo!
A look at political hardships in the Congo — from the colonization up to the 2006 elections. The La Storia Siamo Noi team followed the 50 international observers of the "Blessed Builders of Peace" delegation which arrived in Bukavu during the counting of the votes. On July 30, 2006, 46 years after obtaining its independence, the Democratic Republic of the Congo went back to the polls. The country emerged from ten years of war that claimed four million lives — the bloodiest conflict after World War II. To ensure solidarity with the population through personal commitment to Congolese civil society — this was the message the volunteers brought in order to strengthen the existing bonds between Europe and Africa. For once, Africa tells us a story not about death, but about life and hope.
