Pojken som inte fick malaThe Boy Who Was Forbidden to Paint
A film about the great Swedish painter and filmmaker Erling Johansson. Born in Lapland in the coldest place in Sweden in 1934, Erling grew up in a sectarian Laestadian settler’s village, where everybody was forbidden to make pictures, listen to music or to sing. He started painting secretly when he was seven years old. 70 years later he is still wildly productive and anarchic. In this film he paints Hans Blix and twenty other famous Swedes, while he is retelling the odd story of his life, also illustrated by his films, Anima Mundi and Expulsi. Both films have been internationally rewarded many times. This film also contains unique film archive pictures from Lapland from the 20's and the 30's.
