Pauvres Riches
In five classrooms in Geneva and Togo, children aged 10 to 12 from radically opposed social backgrounds, talk freely about what wealth and poverty means to them. Their answers, amazingly mature and informed, deal with solidarity and justice, but also illegal immigration and racism, colonialism and the exploitation of resources. In counterpoint to their comments, the camera follows several of them at school and in their daily lives. From the children who fetch water every morning from a stagnant pond, to the children of ministers with private chauffeurs, from Geneva orphans to the offspring of diplomats and bankers - the contrasts are striking, but not always where we expect them to find them.
