Japanese American Who Fought Against Japan

NHK’s investigation revealed the unknown history of US-Japan relations. Harry Fukuhara fought as a military interpreter in the U.S. Army during the Pacific War while his younger brother, enlisted in the Imperial Japanese Army, readied himself for a suicide attack. His mother and elder brother were seriously affected by nuclear radiation following the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. In 1948, his comrade-in-arms served as a messenger between General MacArthur and the Emperor. His best friend also supported secretly Japan’s rearmament.
