Mozart à la lettre

Deciphering Mozart

Mozart - enigma or superman: how are we to approach this great composer today? 250 years after his birth, this film attempts to decipher his music on the basis of his prolific correspondence. Neither a biography nor a mere recording, Mozart à la lettre is an impressionist portrait mediated by contemporary artists. Actors Denis Podalydès, Françoise Gillard, Michel Favory and Mireille Delcroix appropriate the letters of Mozart and his entourage. The great conductor Louis Langrée invites us to follow him in concert and during rehearsal. Pianist Robert Levin, Harvard professor and Mozart scholar, captivatingly shows us what we have to learn from the way he composed his music.
