Monster in the Family

One of Canada's most notorious criminals, Martin Ferrier, is about to be released from prison. The 6-foot-5, 257-pound offender, termed "an incurable psychopath" told one prison doctor that he wants to be Canada's most prolific killer. His own mother, Judy Perry, is leading a well-publicized campaign to put him behind bars permanently. In a controversial documentary, John Kastner challenges the frightening labels attached to Ferrier, claiming he is only a relatively minor violent offender who has been demonized by the authorities, the media and in an unlikely twist, by his own mother, but who actually poses no serious threat to public safety. The film explores the disturbing question of why a mother would terrify the nation about her child.
