Mãe Baratinha
This documentary deals with the life and religion of a priestess of the Afrobrazilian cult of Candomblé. The author is shot during the different moments of his initiation, made of rituals and sacrificial offers that take place in a poor area of a Brazilian small village. The narrative plot is used to render the meaning of the existence of a lady out of ordinary life, the strength of her faith, the nature of spirituality that mixes her important social function with the immanence of the sacred. The witnesses of Mãe Baratinha, little by little, depict the features of her face, revealed to the spectator only at the end of the documentary, in a dialogue between cultures, way of life and religions.
