Les Gueux de la RépubliqueThe Damned of the Republic
In Chad, since 1990, native children called the "child herders" have been hired by Arab stockbreeders. After six months of work, child herders earn a calf which goes to their parents. Descendants of farmer parents, these children suddenly find themselves in charge of huge herds without any preparation. The lack of experience creates tensions between farmers and breeders. This form of child labor is a flagrant violation of the conventions and treaties signed by Chad and represents a new form of modern-day slavery.
