Algeria, Christmas 1993. An armed group of the GIA entered the monastery at Tibhirine and threatened the members of the small Trappist community. At that time, the bloody struggle between Islamic fundamentalists and the Algerian State was at its height. The murder of foreigners was beginning. The monks pondered, Should they leave? Deeply attached to this country, its culture and the Algerian people, they decided to stay. In March 1996, seven of the monks were abducted and executed. Almost 10 years later, friends look back and make us understand why they wanted to stay.
