La Polygamie au Canada
To our minds, shaped in a democratic age, it seems clear there is no greater symbol of gender equality than monogamy. We think of polygamy as an archaic, long outmoded concept. And yet–whether through polygamy or polyamory– a growing number of Canadians have opted to live outside strictly monogamous relationships. The illegal status of polygamous unions creates a host of problems of all kinds. Moral standards are changing, Canadian society is taking on new shapes and its values are being redefined. In this global era, are we going to act to genuinely prohibit polygamy, or are we going to break new ground by legislating egalitarian polygamy?
