A portrait of the Ensemble intercontemporain, in residence at the Cité de la musique in Paris, and its 30 year adventure in contemporary music. Archive images and filmed sequences allow us to see, hear and understand the tremendous human investment of this unique ensemble and its role in musical creativity in our time. The film’s structure, in the form of polyphonic architecture, introduces us to Pierre Boulez, the founder of the Ensemble, and Suzanna Mälkki, its current director, as well as the composers and conductors who guide us through the tours and studio recordings.
