Klimt ou le testament d'AdèleKlimt, Adele's Last Will
Adèle Bauer, wife of the wealthy Viennese industrialist Ferdinand Bloch, a leading patron of the arts, was also one of Gustav Klimt's muses, as we can see from the portrait of her exhibited at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna. Since 1998, this portrait and five other Klimt paintings have been the object of a long-running legal battle between Maria Altmann, Adele Bauer's niece, and the Austrian government. Arguing that in her will, drawn up in 1923, Adele formulated the wish that the paintings be housed at the Belvedere Museum, Austria refused to return them to the heiress. In addition to the history of the Bloch-Bauer family, this film evokes the despoiling of the property of European Jews and a dark page in Austrian history.
