Karen Young's Canticum Canticorum
A boy and a girl in search of love, a mother's ambition for her son to join the war, a tale of heartbreak and despair in which love conquers all in the end.
Featuring the composition and performance of one of Quebec's most beloved singers, Karen Young, the hidden biblical text, the Song of Songs, is brought to life in a war context in the twenty-first century. With a libretto shifting from Arabic to French to English, Hebrew, Latin, a series of arias and Gregorian chants recounts the timeless theme of love as strong as death, supported by breathtaking visuals, powerful music and original dance performances choreographed by Gioconda Barbuto, from the Nederlands Dans Theater.
