Julio Pomar - O Risco
A biographical documentary about one of the major contemporary Portuguese painters: Julio Pomar. Personalities of the art world, among them Antonio Lobo Antunes, and Mario Soares, give their views and engage in a dialogue with the voice of the painter at work. In the course of 60 years in art, Julio Pomar has never taken the easy way out and always kept a step ahead of opinion and established artistic trends. At age 16, he became the leader of the Portuguese neo-realist movement. He served a prison term, then moved to Paris. He experimented with several forms of expression: he decorated public places, jubilantly explored pictorial eroticism and illustrated the major works of world literature. His paintings have been exhibited in several cities throughout the world but their author has always swum against the tide, one foot in the world at large and the other in the history of Portuguese art. He is a free artist who says of himself: “I do as I like.”
