Karim, Youssef and Cherif, three youths from the housing projects in the Paris suburbs, are recruited by a French agent of a Jihadist movement to fight the infidels in Iraq. A few months later, the three Arab-French boys arrive separately in Syrian training camps, and then find themselves in Iraq. Those who don’t speak Arabic fluently have trouble making themselves understood but all experience total culture shock: nothing in France had prepared them for the chaos of war. Back in France, with Hugo Bessières, diplomat with the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Centre d’analyses et de previsions, we follow the course of French foreign policy on the eve and during the first phase of the Iraqi conflict. In Iraq, Delphine, who has spent more than ten years with an NGO developing a drinking water system in Baghdad, is kidnapped by a group of Bath opponents and “sold” as a hostage to Sunni Jihadists, among whom we find our three young French combatants. Bessières will do everything in his power to negotiate the release of the young woman...
