Death of a President
The date is October 19, 2007. President George W. Bush lands at Chicago O'Hare Airport in the afternoon, to deliver a speech to local business leaders. A large anti-war demonstration has been arranged in Chicago to mark the President's visit, and security concerns are heightened as a result. In the city, Superintendent Greg Turner, the First Deputy of the Chicago Police Department, is disturbed by the presence of various underground militant groups moving among the demonstrators. As the presidential motorcade passes through the streets, the mood becomes more volatile, and there are sporadic outbreaks of violence. At 7.11pm, Bush enters the lobby of the hotel, and begins to shake hands and converse with the public. Bush is just about to get into his limousine when Larry Stafford, head of the Presidential Protection Detail, hears a bullet ricochet and, moments later, pandemonium ensues. President Bush has been hit, and Stafford immediately bundles him into the car. The President is bleeding from a chest wound, and is having trouble breathing, as the car speeds towards hospital. As the news of the shooting begins to break across America's networks, Robert H. Maguire, Special Agent in Charge, Chicago FBI, is leading the operation searching for the killer. Witnesses confirm that the shots were fired from 422 North Park, a tall building overlooking the hotel. All those in the vicinity are detained by police, including Jamal Abu Zikri, who is thought to have left the building at around the time of the shooting…
