Comment devient-on saint ?
Saints are supposed to be examples to the faithful of lives lived in the "heroic virtues" of faith, charity and temperance. These virtues have amazingly spread in the past 20 years: Jean-Paul II canonized no less than seven times more than any pope before him. Why have the Church's rules changed? For the answer, we gained access to the Holy of Holies, the place where sainthood is decided in a very fussy manner: the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, in the Vatican. And we discovered that today there are few martyrs — sainthood is attained mostly through influence and all too often abides by political and ideological motives.
