Chambas, de l'autre côté de la toile
The film is set in the private world of a man who was born in the Gers 60 years ago. As a little boy, he had decided that he would some day be a painter. A painter or nothing at all. “I dreamed of being damned, like Van Gogh, but recognized… in other words, alive.” 50 years later, this little boy has become one of the great painters of his generation. He never lost sight of his dream and continues to struggle day after day, constantly searching. But searching for what? I spent a few months in the company of the artist, both in moments of creative frenzy, and during times he was tormented by lack of inspiration and money. Taking us from a series of self-portraits in his atelier to a monumental work in the Arles Arenas, this film is the moving story of a contemporary artist who exerts himself to continue to exist in this art world, which has become a great, pitiless market. More simply, it is also the story of a man fighting to leave something of himself behind.
