Boris Eifman Ballet Rehearsal
From the start, Boris Eifman's Ballet Theater was conceived as the creative space of a single choreographer, a sort of laboratory. At present, it is the only modern ballet theater in Russia that presents flamboyant, highly theatrical dance pieces. Now 60, Eifman courageously has embodied the opposition between formal beauty and the artist's inner anguish. His work introduces new forms and principles into the art of dance. In his dance pieces, brilliantly performed by the troupe, he movingly raises complex philosophical questions rarely dealt with on the stage. His highly diverse repertoire includes daring new works based on such literary works as Dostoevsky's The Idiot and Don Quixote. Many critics hail him as one of the most "innovative, original and creative" of choreographers, and say that his dance parables "already belong to the 21st century."
