In the late 18th Century, Bocage, the poet, disembarks in Lisbon. There he leads a life of poetry, taverns, brothels and women. The authorities, fearful of the winds of the French Revolution, considered him controversial and dangerous to the Portuguese crown. He is pursued, arrested and slandered.
