The classical ballerina is a figure of fascination. She practices a now rare art form, a craft as demanding as it is little understood, and she is all the more fascinating for having a tenuous destiny. But there is a country where she continues to shine: Russia. Land of the quest for the absolute, the worship of beauty, land of vast expanses and nostalgia, and land of a forgotten femininity – Russia is the land of the ballerina. The director of this film went to Saint Petersburg to find out what made these dancers unique and developed a film of great scope. Through his personal research, he found an approach to the world of classical ballet and the power it exerts over audiences.
