This documentary traces the life of Nao-Chan, from the time she was eight until her early thirties. She is an epileptic with a mental handicap but the film is not a mere record of her struggle against disease. It focuses on the bonds with her family and their friends in the community. Nao is the core of a family of four and it is no exaggeration to say that they hold a "family council" almost every day. There is a lively atmosphere in the house as they freely exchange opinions. The main subject in recent years has been to help Nao achieve self-reliance. Her mother wants Nao to live in a group home and she has finally persuaded her husband. The film shows these four people as they cope with life by trial and error. It also allows us to appreciate something whose meaning can only be grasped once it has become a thing of the past.
