A cinematic fresco in 10 episodes, which explores the doctrines and founding myths of the American nation, from the Mayflower to the 1960s, as illustrated by Hollywood and analyzed by two leading American writers: Jim Harrison and Russell Banks. Hollywood put on film the major events and legendary heroes who welded a population of disparate cultures and languages into a single nation. The two writers observe and comment specific historical moments and how they are treated in film excerpts.
