Algérie tours détours
We set off for Algeria with militant filmmaker René Vautier, considered there as the “Father of Algerian cinema.” A witness to the war, the birth and Golden Age of Algerian cinema, he takes us back in time to better understand the current situation of motion pictures here. His own view is balanced with the views of professionals and spectators. We recreate the “ciné-pops,” itinerant film shows which they had introduced right after Independence. These are followed by lively discussions with the audience about politics, history, young people and the condition of women.
