A Working Mom
In 1990, Marisa, a 22-year-old Bolivian divorcee with two young children, joined the ranks of 40 million emigrants who leave homeland to seek work in wealthy countries in order to feed their family. Leaving her three-year-old son and infant daughter with her parents, she despondently accepted this mother’s sacrifice. Marisa spent 15 years in Israel doing hard menial labor and sending her wages home to her parents to pay for her children’s schooling and finance the building of a little house in the village. In February 2005, Marisa returned home to Bolivia to be reunited with her children, now 16 and 18, and to be the mother she dreams of being.
