A Returnee
Chang Feng-xiang is a Japanese orphan deserted in northeast China 59 years ago. She was brought up by a Chinese family and married a Chinese when she grew up. She was vice chairwoman of the C.P.P.C.C. of Laixi City of China before she retired. In 1993, Chang Feng-xiang went back to Japan. The Japanese government calls people of her kind Chinese returnees. And in Japan, there are now 2,458 war orphans returned from China. A Returnee describes the whole process of Chang Feng-xiang’s being deserted, adopted and brought up, and the life of many other such orphans. It touches upon the embarrassing present condition of the returnees and their sentimental attachment to China.
