1956

The 1956 Hungarian revolution is a cornerstone in the 20th century history that made the first dent in the monolithic Soviet Empire and led after decades to the change of the Communist regime, not only in Hungary but in all of the East European countries. The first part of the documentary starts with the prelude of the revolution: 1953, year of Stalin's death. The second part presents the tragic end of the Hungarian revolution. The central figure of the story is Imre Nagy, the Prime Minister who was elected in front of the government at the demand of the revolutionaries. After the 4th of November 1956, in Budapest, the revolt of the citizens turned into a slaughter: the Soviet army drowned the revolution in blood.
