Lieutenant Gange is assigned to command a blockhouse in the woods near a village on the Belgian border. His mission is to observe the German and communicate troop movements to his superiors. Based on Julien Gracq’s novel, this film chronicles the day-to-day existence of four French soldiers during the “Funny War” of September 39 – May 40. We share the waiting of these men, the routine of military life, their relations with the villagers.
