Un abbé nommé Pierre
The life of Henry Grouès, who, under the name of Abbé Pierre, joined the Resistance and helped Jews to hide. Searched for by Gestapo, he met General de Gaulle in 1943 in Algiers. After the war, he is elected as deputy of Meurthe-et-Moselle and founded "Emmaüs", a community of ragmen building temporary lodgings for "homeless" people. At the time of the rigorous winter of 1954, Abbé Pierre, on the radio, calls on "the insurrection of kindness" in favour of the homeless, launching a vast movement of mutual aid. Using a rare choice of archives, this film is an impressionist portrait of a man who wanted to be Saint-François d'Assise and showed deep humanism by devoting his life to others. This documentary tries to avoid stereotypes in order to emphasize the reawakening of fraternity.
