The Waiting
September, 2003 – a night of applause, relief and artistic ecstasy – the inaugural performance by a troupe of dancers who had for months toiled for these few moments in front of thousands of spectators who cheered their improbable success. Yet, only hours later, when the stage had gone dark and the theater, quiet - Gordon and Susan Crowder, founders of the Atlantic Southeast Ballet and Orchestra, vanished. It would be the triumphal first and only performance by a band of artisans who took it upon themselves to see their dreams survive – if only for one night. The Waiting tells the story of almost 100 who changed their lives to embark upon a dream that quickly became the intimate nightmare of the Atlantic Southeast Ballet and Orchestra as told through the eyes of five dancers who despite their odds for success and questionable leadership, helped created a night no one will soon forget and helped tell a story everyone will remember.
