Symfonie N° 2
For the first time, Galina Ustvolskaya, an 86-year-old wayward composer from St. Petersburg, comes out of her shell. Her Second Symphony (1979) has turned out to be a key piece in her oeuvre. Although the symphony was released on record much to her sorrow it has never been properly performed. In May 2005, she was present in Amsterdam during the recording of her symphony under the direction of Reinbert De Leeuw, in Holland. This film is the second part of a diptych: the first part is the documentary A Cry in the Universe, presented in competition, and this sequel is the actual recording of the Second Symphony.
