Sinesipho: Why Must I Die?
Sinesipho is a 15-year-old Aids orphan living in South Africa. Her appetite for life was such that the Global Fund To Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria chose her to symbolize its actions in 2001. This documentary examines the effectiveness of the campaign by following Busi Maqungo, an HIV+ mother who discovered her illness when she gave birth to her daughter, who died. Since then, carrying a portrait of Sinesipho like a pilgrim’s staff, Busi has been fighting for access to drugs and treatment. Thanks to this film, the combat has been internationalized: Busi met the heads of international organizations in charge of the fight against Aids, who admit in veiled terms their powerlessness in the face of the pandemic, due to lack of means.
