Silvestre Revueltas...
The Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas was born in Durango in 1899. Through his autobiographical texts, we learn about his family and his first approaches to music. Interviews with his brother José and his daughter Eugenia tell us about his temper, his ideals and political affiliations. Revueltas’ musical development, from the Conservatorio Nacional de Música to his studies in the United States and his return to Mexico, as well as the characteristics of his music and his participation on film scores are discussed. His trip to Spain with a group of antifascist intellectuals awakened in Revueltas a great enthusiasm for the antifascist fight. The Spanish Republic's defeat marked him deeply until his premature death in 1940.
