Shoot Back!
"Maureen, Fred and Julius grew up in one of the toughest and worst slums in Africa, the Mathare District in Nairobi, Kenya. Their fathers died either from Aids or violence; their mothers tried to raise them, put food on the table and pay school lessons. We, a group of filmmakers from Germany, travelled to Nairobi to establish with the Kenya-based journalist Katharina Kiecol a Digicam Workshop with the goal of having the children create videos diaries of their lives. The result is a film documenting the daily lives of theses young persons. It might be described as A Diary of Hell, but the film is also a diary of hope: not to back down and let the ghetto destroy them, but to resist and make a better future."
