Roms, l'apartheid européenRoma, European Apartheid
In November 1999, in a small town in the Czech Republic, the mayor builds a wall alongside a Gipsy ghetto. The wall rapidly becomes the symbol of the problematic coexistence of Roma and white populations throughout Europe. But the local people block the construction. They refuse this wall of shame, which terrifies their children. The wall divides the country, and attracts international media. The film begins with the story of the symbolic wall and goes on to explore in depth the daily life of the inhabitants of the ghetto. They tell us the violence they have suffered, and the inertia of the police and judicial system. They speak also of the recent past, of Communism and Nazi genocide.
