Premier Noël dans les tranchées

First Christmas in the Trenches

It is a virtually unknown fact that, in December 1914, German, British and French soldiers emerged from their trenches and fraternized with each other, creating a commotion among their respective commanding officers. How could such a thing have been possible, given the fierce hatred each side otherwise displayed toward one another? Of course, these events were peripheral but they reflected something infinitely more telling about the mindset of soldiers than what we are used to hearing. Using these events as a starting point, the film looks back at World War One from an original vantage point: that of the feelings and daily lot of soldiers at the front.
