Is Gaul, usually described in our text books as a natural entity both geographically and culturally, just a myth dreamed up by Julius Caesar? That’s the theory upheld by Christian Goudineau, historian at the Collège de France and an expert on the matter. Drawing on his findings, corroborated by the work of many European archeologists, this documentary explores the different facets of the question, and far from the cartoon image, demonstrates how a same civilization, qualified indifferently as Gallic, Celtic and Gaelic, held sway from the Atlantic to Hungary until Caesar broke it up.
