Nicolas Bouvier, 22 Hospital Street
In 1955, after two years of traveling in the Balkans, Turkey, Iran and half of Asia, writer-photographer Nicolas Bouvier reached the southernmost tip of Sri Lanka, where his luck ran out. Ill, penniless, stranded in a so-called city that seemed inhabited only by demons and insects, he spent nine months left to his own devices. The film takes us to the shores of the Indian Ocean to learn how he could come to this. His mysterious stay embodies the crux of Bouvier’s message.
