Minik
October 1897: the explorer Robert Peary returns to New York from his latest Greenland expedition, carrying on board 5 Polar Eskimos. The 10-year-old Minik and his family are provided with accommodation in the cellar of the American Museum of Natural History. Within a few months, they have all fallen sick. Only young "savage" Minik survives and becomes the darling of the New York Press. He remains in America for 12 years until finally succeeding in making his way back to Greenland. In a collage of archive footage, reconstructions and forensic inquiry, Axel Engstfeld recounts the dramatic tale of the young Eskimo and provides a fascinating insight into the nascent science of anthropology.
