Maria Schneider burst into the cinematic limelight in 1972 with Last Tango in Paris, whose controversial international success had negative repercussions on the actress’s career. Maria paid the price with a seven year battle with depression, but she managed to escape the pitfalls into which so many actresses fall. Fifty films later, she has been directed by Michelangelo Antonioni, René Clément, Philippe Garrel, Daniel Duval, Luigi Commencini, Enki Bilal, Mehdi Charef. Today, after years of refusing interviews, Maria Schneider agrees to talk about her life and career. And when she expresses herself, she doesn’t talk in platitudes.
